The first thing I did was pretend I was a Channel 7 Chicago news weather forecaster during calendar. The kids L.O.V.E.D this & made the usual
I always do a HUGE Dr. Seuss unit and group my students with their "Seuss Partners". After they practice reading it a few times I let them record each other with the Easi-Speak Microphone & then they listened to themselves. This handy little microphone is basically a wireless recorder. After demonstrating one time my students were able to independently record & listen. Three groups would "record" a day & then listen to themselves & make suggestions. This worked out great with my reluctant & most advanced readers.
For my summer project, I plan to record myself reading various popular children's books & download the MP3 files onto an ipod for my Daily 5 listening center. Audio books can be very costly & the kids LOVE when I read to them! I have more ideas below!
